We are very pleased to report that this year's Teacher Grant Program was a huge success. We awarded a total of 88 grants to teachers from all four school districts serving Lakewood and 22 schools. The total given out this year was $41,928.24.

The grants purchased art supplies, physical education equipment, iPads for learning disabled students, laptop computers, a hand-held classroom wireless response system, field trips to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing basketball tournament and career day at the the Greater LA Agency on Deafness, and lots of classroom document cameras.
Since the grant program began in 2003, we have now given 618 grants totaling $231,077.18!
We deeply appreciate the support of our very generous sponsors such as Southern California Edison, the Siegel Survivors Trust, the Lakewood Lions Club, Supervisor Don Knabe, and many other Lakewood residents and businesses who opened their checkbooks to support the education of our children.

We couldn't do it without you!
Our 2013 Teacher Grant Program will be announced in late September or early October. Please check back for details.

Year-round donationsThe funds pay for updated books, art supplies, math kits, audio-visual equipment,  and much more. Last year, 98 teachers received grants totaling $45,070, an increase of 30% over the prior year. The supplemental funding for Lakewood schools plays an especially valuable role during these tough economic times when many school districts are having to cut their classroom supply budgets.

Third grade teacher Jeanne Zullo of Melbourne Elementary School was able to replace an aging television, “I just can’t believe the Lakewood Education Foundation continues to be so generous in these terrible economic times. They’re generous to teachers. They understand that class sizes have increased and that we have needs for just everyday things. And, they’re so willing and generous to us and I just can’t thank them enough.”

Click for videoOne educator in 2011 received funding for an “Elmo” document camera/projector that is widely sought as a valuable teaching tool. Several teachers now share the resource and use it to project text books, photographs and art work for whole classes to view. Teachers say it’s ideal for sharing art and cultural information. Another grant paid for equipment needed to help special-needs children, and another funded art materials that are scarce during these times of budget cuts.
